Assign to Service to Hostgroup

Hi,

I must be missing something here but I am unable to assign a service to a hostgroup.

I have a new check i want to add to only Windows servers.
I currently have each host in its own config file along with its monitored services.
I have a separate hostgroups config file with all the various hostgroups setup. There is a windows-servers group and its members are other hostgroups (windows machines).

Adding the new check to all the hosts would be time consuming or complicated to work out using scripting. So it was suggested I can assign the new service to a hostgroup but this gives me errors all over the place when i run nagcheck.

Windows hostgroup example:
define hostgroup{
hostgroup_name windows-servers ; The name of the hostgroup
alias Windows Servers ; Long name of the group
hostgroup_members apache-servers,jrun-servers,iis-servers,apache-servers,vectus-servers,tomcat-servers,sql-servers,universe-servers,oracle-servers,gis-server
}

Have i setup my nagios in such a way that makes my task impossible?
