A Little Confusion About Versions

Post by Spoobicus »

Hello All,

I've just started getting into Nagios and something is hitting me as strange right off the bat. The newest version 4.0.8 is what I have installed, but when I look at guides, addons, plugins, et cetera seem to be for Nagios 3.x. Am I missing out on something big here? Is 3 the currently supported version whereas 4 is the experimental next revision, or is this a simple case of 3.x tools being compatible with 4.x?

If 3.x is the be-all end-all version, please let me know!

The config options have changed very little between 3.0 and 4.0, and 99% of what applied in one will apply in the other. The changes were mainly in the backend, related to performance.

Alrighty,

So something like NConf will work the 4.x versions more than likely?

NConf isn't a project we maintain so I can't really say one way or the other. The config files will largely work between versions, but depending on what NConf does behind the scenes it may or may not be compatible.
