2009R1.1H trial (and tribulations)

Post by mariof »

Hi guys,

I'm not sure if its a user problem (i.e. mine), but I'm using the demo of 2009R1.1H. I want to monitor linux/unix hosts and eventually use the mysql backend for pumping info into other systems.

The problem I seem to be having is this:

Once I have manually created a linux host (i want to use ssh based scripts and not nrpe btw), I can't seem to get services added to my linux host. I've looked at the templates (creating new ones for called linux-server-host-temp and linux-server-service), but I can't seem to apply it - they get applied to localhost. I have used groundworks in the past, and the configuration management/application is much easier.

I have looked at the current documentation, but I can't seem to find a how-to which discribes the actions/sequence in which you should use the GUI.

We are looking at migrating away from the free versions of nagios because of the percieved added value.

Thanks for your help

You should be able to select the host or hostgroup you'd want, if you didn't do that then I could see your service being applied to localhost. To make your life easier, if your not going to use the Wizard, setup hostgroups for each service or set of services and then apply them to the hosts. No point in created 100's of the same service like the Wizards do.

There are known problems using IE.

You should be using a standards compliment browser like FireFox, IE does not follow many of the standards set by authoritative communities.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I'll use firefox from now on with Nagios XI.

I did add the host to a service but it doesn't seem to "take". If I create a host group called linux-servers, can I then add services called linux-cmd-X, linux-cmd-Y and associate them with the hostgroup?

Kind Regards

Mario
