Upgrade from version 5.2.3 t0 5.3.2 breaks the BPI groups

Post by sgiworks »

Hello Team,

When we try to upgrade the Nagios XI version from 5.2.3 t0 5.3.2, it breaks the BPI configuration. The upgrade was performed using the Web User Interface: Check for Updates, then click Check for Updates Now
The upgrade completed successfully, but then on logon we identified that the BPI config was affected. So we had the restore using the backup which restored the BPI configuration.

Can you please suggest the best way to upgrade the Nagios XI version to latest without breaking the BPI configuration?

Let me know if you would like to see the upgrade log. I can send through secure transfer.

Regards,
Swapnil

Can you clarify this a bit? Are you sure it breaks BPI or does it break the underlying Service/command definitions?

Breaks the underlying Service Groups, I can see only the BPI Hosts Group and not the services group.

Did you customize any of the commands in the 5.2.3 services? There is a warning this will overwrite those types of customizations before the upgrade occurs.

If that is the case, you'll need to update the commands manually and adjust any syntax differences as needed.

Oh NO, this is a show stopper then. We can't upgrade to latest version? Isn't there a way out to backup the customization and the restore them later?

I am unsure as to what provoked such a question. Of course you can upgrade, but if you customized any commands they will be overwritten per the upgrade warning.

The commands are in /usr/local/nagios/etc/commands.cfg. Please note this is a dynamically generated file, but its contents can be used to restore previous commands via the GUI.

Both stock services and wizards may use these commands so compatibility is not guaranteed between any customization you have done on the old install and what is present in the upgrade version.
