When is the Nagvis component going to be updated?

When is the Nagvis component going to be updated?

Currently installed version (1.5.9) was released in 2011. I've heard it was going to be updated multiple times, hoping to get a concrete answer on when we can expect the component to be updated or if there are plans to completely replace its functionality.
