Return incorrect value from check_esx3.pl

Post by timlam »

Hello everyone, I am new for nagiosXI and try to monitor the ESXI 6.0 using check_esx3.pl

I got the problem when I use check_esx3.pl to get the network usage and it often return 0kb and it is impossible

I tried to run it via GUI and commandline but the same output

I am not sure it caused by plugin version or rpm version/missing in nagios

Can someone provide some suggestion to me to resolve that problem?

WIth that check_esx3.pl to monitor CPU and memory, the return value looks correct.

Can you show us the full input / output you're attempting to use? This will give us something to work with. This is a 3rd party plugin so we're a bit limited on the support we can provide, but we'll do our best.

Thanks rkennedy reply, I think that the plug-in provided by VMware and it looks compatible on that nagios and ESXI version in our project.

I tried to collection some information but the issue occur on customer site, I need to schedule onsite time for that action.

However, we have the nagiosXI standard license and it should contains the maintenance and support service. I ask the question in forum and search older posts, and no one mention the same issue. It seems better to contact nagios support to get the official solution.

There are some possible:

1. NagiosXI server contains the incompatible rpm/MIB/third-plugin, we monitor various type of device and service and some source come from support forum with third-party owner
2. Some rpm on NagiosXI is older/new version and it contain bug
3. ESXI contains unknown error, however, we have three same version ESXI and occur same issue.

These are all good points on what the problem could be. As you're a current customer, it may be worth submitting a ticket about this. When doing so (and when you're able to schedule a time with the customer), please submit a profile, the full output of rpm -qa and then the full input / output of what you're seeing.

Also as a side note - if you'd like to post in the customer forum, feel free to email [email protected] to get added.

Just checking in since we have not heard from you in a while. Did @rkennedy's post clear things up or has the issue otherwise been resolved?
