Hi,
As more and more electronics devices are getting IP enabled, it is becoming possible to deploy Nagios(via SNMP monitoring) in mixed IT-Electronics environments as opposed to the old purely IT setups.
But this comes with a set of challenges. The WARNING-CRITICAL-UNKNOWN-OK states work well with purely IT setups and devices, but implementing Nagios on Electronics environments require more states, for instance MINOR-MAJOR-CRITICAL-UNKNOWN-OK would be the states that people who work with electronic devices are more familiar and comfortable with.
I understand that this is a big change as state names are part of the Nagios code logic, but I would urge that further releases of Nagios start making space for such a change or else Nagios and by extension open source will lose out on a large segment of the monitoring market.
Thanks,
termcap.
Mixed IT-Electronics deployments and state names

These are good arguments. I would suggest raising an issue on the Github since that's a more appropriate place to discuss futures/architectural concerns moving forward with the software:

I've raised the issue on the github page for NagiosEnterprise as suggested by you here https://github.com/NagiosEnterprises/na ... issues/359
I do hope that if this is ever considered and implemented, Nagios Core users would be allowed to use these features as well.

+1
if it can't make it into Core, would be cool to see in XI.

erm.. I actually want it to be in Nagioscore!tacolover101 wrote:+1

Nagios should not simply dump its old Nagioscore community with which they have grown so far.

XI runs on Core, so we're quite keen on keeping Core maintainedtermcap wrote:Nagios should not simply dump its old Nagioscore community with which they have grown so far.
At any rate, this change would almost certainly come with Core before XI.
Since an issue has been filed on github, is it ok if we continue the discussion there and close this thread?

the only reason i mentioned xi is because it would be easier to write as a wrapper in xi, but the real way to do it would be at the core level.termcap wrote:erm.. I actually want it to be in Nagioscore!tacolover101 wrote:+1
