check_nrpe status information (null)

Post by Rhobar »

Hi all,

I searched in old posts but I did not found a solution for my problem.

I'm trying to monitor a windows machine cpu using nsclient++ (NSCP-0.4.1.73-x64) but I get "(null)" result on my status information.

If I try to check it manually from my nagios server I get no problems:

Code: Select all

[root@vmnagios plugins]# /usr/lib64/nagios/plugins/check_nrpe -H 10.10.3.50 -c alias_cpu
OK CPU Load ok.|'5m'=3%;80;90 '1m'=3%;80;90 '30s'=3%;80;90
Here there are:

Code: Select all

my command definition:
        define command{
        command_name    check_win_cpu
        command_line    $USER1$/check_nrpe -c alias_cpu -H $HOSTADRESS$
        }

the service defined on machine:
define service{
        use local-service ; Name of service template to use
        host_name                       w3vcs02
        service_description             check_win_cpu
        check_command                   check_win_cpu
        }

ini file on machine:
; alias_cpu - Alias for alias_cpu. To configure this item add a section called: /settings/external scripts/alias/alias_cpu
alias_cpu = checkCPU warn=80 crit=90 time=5m time=1m time=30s

At the same time I'm monitoring disk and other stuff without problems.

Thank you in advance :)

Can you post the entire nsclient.ini (NSC.ini) file, along with the config definitions for the "w3vcs02" host, and the "local-service" template?

Hi!

local service is defined as default in templates.cfg file:

Code: Select all

# Local service definition template - This is NOT a real service, just a template!

define service{
        name local-service ; The name of this service template
        use generic-service ; Inherit default values from the generic-service definition
        max_check_attempts 4 ; Re-check the service up to 4 times in order to determine its final (hard) state
        normal_check_interval 5 ; Check the service every 5 minutes under normal conditions
        retry_check_interval 1 ; Re-check the service every minute until a hard state can be determined
        register 0 ; DONT REGISTER THIS DEFINITION - ITS NOT A REAL SERVICE, JUST A TEMPLATE!
        }
this is the .ini file on monitored windows host:

Code: Select all

# If you want to fill this file with all avalible options run the following command:
#   nscp settings --generate --add-defaults --load-all
# If you want to activate a module and bring in all its options use:
#   nscp settings --activate-module <MODULE NAME> --add-defaults
# For details run: nscp settings --help

Re: check_nrpe status information (null)

These configs look good - I don't see any issues with them. However, I forgot to ask you about the "check_nrpe" command definition. It would be nice to see this one too. I wonder if you are passing "$HOSTADRESS$" or "-c" twice...

Your "check_win_cpu" command is defined as:

Code: Select all

define command{
        command_name    check_win_cpu
        command_line    $USER1$/check_nrpe -c alias_cpu -H $HOSTADRESS$
        }
so if, for example, you have check_nrpe command configured as this:

Code: Select all

define command {
       command_name                  		check_nrpe
       command_line                  		$USER1$/check_nrpe -H $HOSTADDRESS$ -t 30 -c $ARG1$ $ARG2$
}
then, you should change the "check_win_cpu" command to this:

Code: Select all

define command{
        command_name    check_win_cpu
        command_line    $USER1$/check_nrpe!alias_cpu
        }

Hi!

I never defined check_nrpe.

Thinking on lmiltchev said, i tried to modify my commands.cfg deleting "-H $HOSTADDRESS$" entry, I get error with parameteres.
I restablished "-H $HOSTADDRESS$" entry and now my check is working.

Probably before the delete i wrote it uncorrectly; I can't give other explanation.

thanks for your help :)

Yes, there was a typo in your previous command for the $HOSTADDRESS$ option, it was missing one of the letter D in it.
If everything is working now, shall we close and lock the post as solved?
