Question about the google map dashboard

Post by benhank »

I read that the google map has the ability to to show all hosts in a hostgroup.
My question is this: How are those Hostgroups displayed? I have hostgroups with over 500 devices. Will the GM show 1 dot for the HG location, or will it show all 500+ dots bunched up in that location?
Also will GM show hosts that aren't in a parent/child relationship?
Can one of you guys post a screenie of GM displaying HG's?
Thanks in advance!

In the Google Map integration doc it says, (page 5)
If multiple hosts have the same coordinates, they will appear on the
map as one pin.
When you hover over the pin with the mouse, the names of the hosts at
this location will be shown in a message bubble.
To view more details about these hosts, simply click on the pin.
It also seems like you have to add each specific coordinate for each host, and can't do it by hostgroups. I may be wrong, a Nagios admin can help if I am.

There are two drop-down lists that can show hostgroups or host. Including parent/child lines and the ability to hide those lines.

Does this help?

@benhank, kyang is correct. If you used the same coordinates for each host, member of your hostgroup, then you would see only one pin on the map. When you hover over it with the mouse, you should be able to see the names of your hosts in the bubble. I haven't tested assigning the same coordinates to more than a few hosts, so I am not sure how they are going to display if you had too many. Anyway, here's an example of a small hostgroup, shown on Google Map in Nagios XI. All of the members of the linux-servers hostgroup have different coordinates.
