CentOS 5: Update Nagios XI from 5.2.2 to 5.4.8; what to do?

Post by dbsaust »

Hi Everyone,
Need your suggestion. Following is our current situation:
 We have Nagios XI server, version 5.2.2, currently up and running on CentOS 5
 We tried to upgrade Nagios XI to latest version 5.4.8
 Failed because Nagios XI's latest version requires CentOS 6 or 7.

What are the options we have? Can you kindly suggest.

Thanks.

Thanks @tacolover101! One thing to add is that you'd need to install 5.2.2 on your new CentOS7 box, restore the backup, and then upgrade: https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... 2.2.tar.gz

I don't suggest this, but you could also upgrade to 5.4.3 on CentOS 5: https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... 4.3.tar.gz

Thanks @tacolover101 and @dwhitfield for your replies.

So, what I understood that we will need new version 7 of CentOS to upgrade Nagios XI latest version. I am assuming the steps as follows:

1. Make a new OS VM ready with a new IP and hostname
2. Install existing Nagios 5.2.2 version on new VM
3. Disable entire Nagios XI notification on Live - How, can you suggest please?
4. Take a backup of Nagios XI Live
5. Enable entire Nagios XI notification on Live
6. Restore Nagios XI on new VM
7. Test Nagios XI on new VM
8. Change IP and hostname of current server
9. Use existing Hostname and IP to new VM
10. Upgrade Nagios XI version.

Kindly assist.

This looks correct however I do not see a need to Disable entire Nagios XI notification on Live..
You can take a backup while it is running in Admin -> Local Backup Archives

Hi @scottwilkerson,
If I take back up from Live and restore in newly VM, it wouldn't find the host systems because of IP is different. Will the new system start sending notification as it would find the hosts?

Thanks.
