Nagios XI backup/restore to different versions

Post by thomas.coffman »

We have an older server ( ver. 5.2.5 ) that I'd like to move data from to a new server ( ver. 5.4.4 ). The backup document says it can only be used on the same version. Is there an easier way than adding everything by hand? I don't want to upgrade the current server for a variety of reasons. If there is a way to backup certain host groups or a subset of data that would be nice as well.

Any help is appreciated.

Why not install https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... 2.5.tar.gz on the new server and then upgrade that?

I can, that will just take a much longer time.

I don't understand what you're comparing a 5.2.5 install to timewise, but if you want to do an import, you can certainly do that: https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... ios-XI.pdf

Ultimately that is what I'd like to do, just import the existing data for hosts/services/host groups etc......

I'll work on this and get back to you. Thanks a bunch!

No problem. Be very careful to follow the given import order. Also, it's probably best to apply the configuration after every import. Otherwise, backtracking to figure out where the problem started is going to be a mess.
