Re: Recieving SNMP Traps

Post by ahoward12 »

I re-uploaded the MIB and clicked process trap. I got this message:

Code: Select all

MIB file successfully processed:
Total translations: 4
Successful translations: 4
I then restarted the service: service snmptt restart

I generated a trap but it looks like it is still hitting the smpttunknown.log

Code: Select all

Just for good measure I deleted the service and recreated it with the wizard, bounced the service again but no luck. Nearly all of my MIB's the owner is Root and the group is Nagios, however the owner and group for the recently uploaded MIB's are apache and apache. Does this matter?

Can you post the /etc/snmp/snmptt.conf file so we can see if the entries were added to it?

Yes, here it is:

Code: Select all

#
EVENT coldStart .1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.1 "Status Events" Normal
FORMAT Device reinitialized (coldStart)
#EXEC qpage -f TRAP notifygroup1 "Device reinitialized (coldStart)"
SDESC
A coldStart trap signifies that the SNMPv2 entity, acting
in an agent role, is reinitializing itself and that its
configuration may have been altered.
EDESC
#

EVENT warmStart .1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.2 "Status Events" Normal
FORMAT Device reinitialized (warmStart)
#EXEC qpage -f TRAP notifygroup1 "Device reinitialized (warmStart)"
SDESC
A warmStart trap signifies that the SNMPv2 entity, acting
in an agent role, is reinitializing itself such that its
configuration is unaltered.

SDESC
A linkDown trap signifies that the SNMP entity, acting in
an agent role, has detected that the ifOperStatus object for
one of its communication links is about to enter the down
state from some other state (but not from the notPresent
state). This other state is indicated by the included value
of ifOperStatus.

EVENT linkUp .1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.4 "Status Events" Normal

SDESC
A linkUp trap signifies that the SNMP entity, acting in an
agent role, has detected that the ifOperStatus object for
one of its communication links left the down state and
transitioned into some other state (but not into the
notPresent state). This other state is indicated by the
included value of ifOperStatus.

EVENT authenticationFailure .1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.5 "Status Events" Normal
FORMAT SNMP athentication failure
#EXEC qpage -f TRAP notifygroup1 "SNMP authentication failure"
SDESC
An authenticationFailure trap signifies that the SNMPv2
entity, acting in an agent role, has received a protocol
message that is not properly authenticated. While all
implementations of the SNMPv2 must be capable of generating
this trap, the snmpEnableAuthenTraps object indicates
whether this trap will be generated.

Re: Recieving SNMP Traps

Couple of things I found. Your snmptt.conf file is missing the SNMP Trap configurations from the RFC1628_UPS_MIB.MIB file so if you add the following to the bottom of the /etc/snmp/snmptt.conf file and restart the snmptt daemon, that will load them up for you.

Code: Select all

EVENT upsTrapOnBattery .1.3.6.1.2.1.33.2.1 "Status Events" Normal
FORMAT The UPS is operating on battery power. This trap is $*
EXEC /usr/local/bin/snmptraphandling.py "$r" "SNMP Traps" "$s" "$@" "$-*" "The UPS is operating on battery power. This trap is $*"
SDESC
The UPS is operating on battery power. This trap is
persistent and is resent at one minute intervals until
the UPS either turns off or is no longer running on
battery.

EVENT upsTrapTestCompleted .1.3.6.1.2.1.33.2.2 "Status Events" Normal

EXEC /usr/local/bin/snmptraphandling.py "$r" "SNMP Traps" "$s" "$@" "$-*" "This trap is sent upon completion of a UPS diagnostic $*"

This trap is sent upon completion of a UPS diagnostic
test.

EXEC /usr/local/bin/snmptraphandling.py "$r" "SNMP Traps" "$s" "$@" "$-*" "This trap is sent each time an alarm is inserted into $*"
SDESC

to the alarm table. It is sent on the insertion of
all alarms except for upsAlarmOnBattery and
upsAlarmTestInProgress.
Variables:

EDESC

EVENT upsTrapAlarmEntryRemoved .1.3.6.1.2.1.33.2.4 "Status Events" Normal

EXEC /usr/local/bin/snmptraphandling.py "$r" "SNMP Traps" "$s" "$@" "$-*" "This trap is sent each time an alarm is removed from $*"

the alarm table. It is sent on the removal of all
alarms except for upsAlarmTestInProgress.

Second thing is the unknown OID .1.3.6.1.2.1.33.2.0.3 from your previous post is not part of the Trap settings in the RFC1628_UPS_MIB.MIB file or any of the Liebert MIB files and I cannot find the file that has that OID online.
You may want to see if the manufacturer has another MIB file with that OID.

Hey, I added what you said to the bottom of my snmptt.conf file and restarted the service but got the errors in the attached document. Also attached my snmptt.conf.

For the heck of it I created a trap, a different one, to try here is what I got: Nothing came up in Nagios from the event viewer or the service. But the event does show up in snmptt.log

Code: Select all

Re: Recieving SNMP Traps

Post by tgriep »

The errors look to be caused be the config file was edited on a windows system and that adds carriage returns to the file and that caused the error.

To fix this, install the dos2unix application by running the following

Code: Select all

yum install dos2unix -y
Then convert the file and restart the daemon
dos2unix /etc/snmp/snmptt.conf
service snmptt restart

Did the errors go away?

In XI, the first time a trap it received, it will show up in the Unconfigured Objects menu so it can be configured.

Go to the Admin > Unconfigured Objects menu and see if it is there.

I followed your directions: I installed the software, then converted it. Once I restarted the service I got relatively the same errors from the snmp.conf. I attached my snmp.conf as well. I created a trap and did not receive anything in unconfigured objects either.

Code: Select all

Re: Recieving SNMP Traps

Post by tgriep »

The /etc/snmp/snmp.conf file should only have one line in it.
Delete all of the other entries from that file and put this in it.

Code: Select all

mibs +ALL
Save the file and restart the trap translator

Code: Select all

service snmptt restart
If you still have errors, post all of the files from the /etc/snmp folder.

I cleared out the file and made it just mib +ALL, restarted the service. I created a trap and it didn't work. I got all of the same messages in in /var/log/snmptt/snmpttunknown.log.

I uploaded the entire directory for /var/log/snmptt/ and /etc/snmp

The snmp.conf file looks good and the those errors seem to be gone.

The unknown OID .1.3.6.1.2.1.33.2.0.3 in the snmpttunknown.log file is NOT part of the Trap settings in the RFC1628_UPS_MIB.MIB file or any of the Liebert MIB files and I cannot find the file that has that OID online.
Until you find a MIB file with that entry, it will always show up in the unknown log.

One thing you could do is to create a custom entry in the /etc/snmptt.conf file for that OID by copying an existing entry, changing the OID and the description, etc... Then the system will receive it.
