Monitor a switch interface within a host in Nagios XI

Post by LarsenC »

Hello,

I would like to know if it is possible and if so how to monitor a certain interface on a switch(or host) that is being monitored in Nagios XI. The main reason for this is to monitor the traffic on the interface.

Yep, just run the Network Switch / Router wizard.

If you just want 1 interface, you can uncheck any ports you are not interested in.

I have ran this wizard that you have mentioned and selected the interface I would like to monitor and applied the settings. I received the following message after I applied the settings: "Configuration Request Successful
Your configuration changes have been successfully applied to the monitoring engine."

I then went to the host I applied the settings to and the interface is not showing up as a service(nothing at all actually) I have the CPU Utilization, Temperature and Ping services. What have I done wrong?

Can I have you download the current wizard from

Code: Select all

http://exchange.nagios.org/directory/Addons/Configuration/Configuration-Wizards/Network-Switch-And-Router-Monitoring-Wizard/details
and upload it through Admin -> Manage Config Wizards

Then try to re-run the wizard.

We did have a bug in a previous wizard that would have problems if there were special characters in the Port/Description.

Scott,

I downloaded and installed the new switch wizard succesfully. I also tried the wizard again and applied the configuration in Core Configuration Manager. Then I went to check the host's services and the interface is still not showing up.

I am running "Nagios XI 2009R1.2"

That's a pretty old version... It is possible there have been related bug fixes since then.

Can you see the item in the core config manager?
