Problems modifying cloned dashboard

Post by drug »

(Nagios XI 5.4.11)

I have a dashboard that was created with an admin account and shared and synced with a different non-admin user.

That non-admin user cloned the shared dashboard.

The user can move the dashlets around on the cloned dashboard and those settings appear to save. However, they are unable to add new dashlets to the cloned dashboard. The pop-up indicates the action succeeded ("The dashlet has been added...") but it never appears in the cloned dashboard.

I have a dashboard that was created with an admin account and shared and synced with a different non-admin user.
The "synced" option ensures that if nagiosadmin updates the dashboard, it will be updated for all the users it was deployed to (not vice versa)... Users cannot modify the dashboards with the synced option selected. If you want users to be able to modify the dashboards that were deployed to them, you should deselect the "Keep Synced" check-box prior to deployment.

To clarify: even after the synced dashboard is cloned it still cannot be modified by a user to which the original was deployed?

I believe you are doing it wrong.

This is what you CAN do:
1. Create a dashboard, and deploy it to multiple users, without selecting the "Keep Synced" option. This way, users will be able to modify the "original" dashboard you sent.
2. Create a dashboard, clone it, then deploy the "clone" to multiple users, AGAIN without selecting the "Keep Synced" option. This way, users will be able to modify the "cloned" dashboard you sent.

This is what you CANNOT do:
1. Create a dashboard, and deploy it to multiple users, with selecting the "Keep Synced" option. Users won't be able to modify the "original" dashboard you sent.
2. Create a dashboard, clone it, then deploy the "clone" to multiple users, with selecting the "Keep Synced" option. This way, users won't be able to modify the "cloned" dashboard you sent.
3. Create a dashboard, and deploy it to multiple users, with selecting the "Keep Synced" option. Users can clone the dashboard you deployed, but won't be able to modify the "cloned" dashboard.

Keep in mind that a cloned dashboard is an "exact replica" of the original one. If the original dashboard is synced, (users cannot modify it), users won't be able to modify the "cloned" dashboard (the replica) either.
