That sounds like you aren't using the Router/Switch Wizard but rather the Generic Network Device Wizard. This could be the source of your different outcomes (some from one wizard, some from another).

For clarity, the actual issue is resolved, correct?

Honestly, I haven't used the Generic Network Device wizard yet. I've always used the Router/Switch one for the appropriate devices.

Glad it is working for you.
Normally, when you delete a network device configuration from XI, it leaves the MRTG config file and doesn't delete it so it should of sent the emails if a device was shut off from before.
