How to take backup of historical data and restore

Post by aanataliya »

Hi,

I am using Nagios core on AWS Amazon Linux AMI. We regularly plan release and we are planning to move changes using AMI in to production. If we replace instance using new AMI, I will loose old historical data. How can I take backup of historical monitoring data from nagios production before release and how do i restore after releasing new changes.

On a base nagios core install there is a nagios.log file usually in a var directory (location varies depending on install type)

you want the nagios.log as well as the archives directory in the same location.

Additionally you would likely want to backup all of your configuration files.

Again, the locations of these varies because different installation methods and OSs put the files in different locations, plus Nagios admins can change the locations of all of these in the nagios.cfg
