NRPE temporary getting SSL handshake error

Post by faridr »

Hi,

We're getting error as per below temporaily in RHEL syslog, but no issue from Nagios XI end, it was confirmed that server never went to hung state. Only occurs for around 2 minutes and back to normal.

Aug 9 21:17:23 servername nrpe[36667]: Could not read request from client, bailing out...
Aug 9 21:17:23 servername nrpe[36667]: INFO: SSL Socket Shutdown.
Aug 9 21:17:33 servername nrpe[36714]: Could not read request from client, bailing out...
Aug 9 21:17:33 servername nrpe[36714]: INFO: SSL Socket Shutdown.
Aug 9 21:17:39 servername nrpe[36725]: Error: Could not complete SSL handshake. 5
Aug 9 21:18:00 servername nrpe[36778]: Error: Could not complete SSL handshake. 5
Aug 9 21:18:01 servername nrpe[36780]: Could not read request from client, bailing out...
Aug 9 21:18:01 servername nrpe[36780]: INFO: SSL Socket Shutdown.
Aug 9 21:18:12 servername nrpe[36831]: Error: Could not complete SSL handshake. 5
Aug 9 21:18:28 servername nrpe[36857]: Error: Could not complete SSL handshake. 5
Aug 9 21:19:26 servername nrpe[36988]: Could not read request from client, bailing out...
Aug 9 21:19:26 servername nrpe[36988]: INFO: SSL Socket Shutdown.

Only explanation I could think of is that it is related to RHEL issue with SSL socket during that time, and nothing to do with NRPE.

Without it being in failed state so we can do some more testing and get more info, we can only really guess as to what the problem could be. A network or system issue could certainly be the problem. It could also have been a temporarily misconfigured plugin. In one case I found it was due to an older install(https://support.nagios.com/forum/viewto ... =7&t=43918), but that doesn't seem likely here.

Yep, agree that it doesn't seems to be older version of nrpe since its only happen once. Suspected this is cause by system issue itself, since this is the only server affected, and from Nagios XI console, everything seems to be fine. Thanks cdienger for the reply as they want confirmation from Nagios support itself rather than word from some support guy before proceeding checking on system.
