Probably the biggest difference between the 2 versions is the capacity of Core 4 to perform many many more checks than Core 3 on the same equipment. this is because Core 4 has worker processes that are much lighter weight than the forking process that Core 3 used.
Additionally, there are multiple security vulnerabilities that have been fixed in Core 4.
