Hi
we have few WS2016 active\passive clusters at our local centres on one of the 'xxxx' domain with attached MSAs. (nothing setup like this on the non-prod domain)
e.g. The 'Output Manager' service has been installed onto both nodes below, but the application\service will only ever run on the active node.
GBSxxxxxxxxxxx01.pluxxs.wxx.com 172.xx.xxx.xx Output Manager, Shepshed, Node 1 [OM Service]
GBSxxxxxxxxxxx02.pluxxs.wxx.com 172.xx.xxx.xx Output Manager, Shepshed, Node 2 [OM Service]
GBSxxxxxxxxxxx01.pluxxs.wxx.com 172.xx.xxx.15 Output Manager, Shepshed Cluster [We failover between nodes and the D:\ moves and is only available on the active node]
GBSxxxxxxxxxxxx2.pluxxs.wxx.com 172.xx.xxx.16 Output Manager, Shepshed FileShare Role ['D:\' OM application and config]
Therefore, we need Nagios to be cluster aware and only alert us if the OM or service is not running on either node.
Kind Regards
Kishore

Re: active/passive cluster monitoring
Most of our XI customers when monitoring clusters will monitor each server individually without notifications and then setup a BPI group to monitor the cluster as a whole and finally run the BPI wizard to monitor the BPI group and send notifications based on that result
