New Environment Setup for ESXI Servers

Post by vignesha »

Hello Team,

We are planning to setup new environment for 230 ESXI servers(VM) with only basic parameters with default check intervals for monitoring.

Could you please suggest us the hardware requirement for the same.

Also if you can suggest the best way to monitor the ESXI Servers and their Guests.

Hi Vignesha,

Apologies but I'm a little unclear on the hardware requirement? Can you provide some more information?

Nagios XI has a built-in wizard for monitoring ESXi servers (step-by-step instructions below),

Monitoring VMware with Nagios XI

Once set up, you can use the Bulk Clone wizard to duplicate the checks to the other instances.

Hi Benjamin,

Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

To make clear, for fresh installation of nagios xi, we would like to know the system/hardware requirement.

Hello Vignesha,

Alright, thanks for clarifying. Here are the recommended guidelines for Nagios XI hardware.

Nagios XI Hardware Requirements

These are really the minimum. How many hosts are servers will you be monitoring?

Hello Vignesha,

Those specifications will suit your requirements. I would error on more CPU's / RAM than less to accommodate the addition of more host and service checks in the future.

Spacing out the check intervals will help performance.
