Nagios XI installation

Post by keerthi.seetharaman »

Hi Team,
Good Day.
I have few queries regarding Nagios XI installation:-
Currently we have RHEL7.7(Maipo) version.

1. We have server where we don't have internet access. And when we try to install nagios xi we are getting the below error:-
Proceeding with installation...
Checking MySQL credentials...
MySQL not yet installed - that's okay.
Running './0-repos'...
Configuring Repos...
Passed New Subscription Check
package centos-release is not installed
An error has occurred:
ERROR: can not find RHNS CA file: /usr/share/rhn/RHN-ORG-TRUSTED-SSL-CERT
See /var/log/up2date for more information
ERROR: Please add the 'Optional' rpms channel to your Red Hat systems subscriptions.
You can do so in the Redhat Network web interface or using the rhn-channel command.
or, install the yum-utils package and use the following command:
yum-config-manager --enable rhel-7-server-optional-rpms
RESULT=1

===================
INSTALLATION ERROR!
===================
Installation step failed - exiting.
Check for error messages in the install log (install.log).

If you require assistance in resolving the issue, please include install.log
in your communications with Nagios XI technical support.

The script that failed was: './0-repos'

When read the article it was mentioned that Optional software channel we need to do the subscription part but as per my client they have done the repo part and they cannot register for the VM.
So can you please suggest if it is necessary for to register for subscription part or else it can be skipped in any other way. In case if it can be skipped can you please let me know how to do it or if cannot can you please let me know why internet connection is required for subscription.

2. Repos downloading:-
For the repos part can it be downloaded and moved to local linux repo so that i can install it or it needs to be downloaded from internet.
I found the repos at https://repo.nagios.com/?repo=rpm-rhel.
So can we use the offline repos after downloading and install nagios XI.

3. Nagios XI console:-
Is it possible to access Nagios XI console without internet connectivity or it is required to access the console.

Please help me on the same as soon as possible.

If you do not have connectivity, you are going to need to start with a fresh RHEL installation and follow these directions for an offline install

Thanks for the quick reply.

One more info I need is how to access the Nagios XI via server name with FQDN instead of IP address.

You would need to add the FDQN to your DNS server

We do not have a packaged installer for offline NRPE agent, I would highly recommend the NCPA agent instead as NRPE will be deprecated in the near future
https://www.nagios.org/ncpa/getting-started.php

Once installed you can use the NCPA Wizard in Nagios XI

Yes, the agent does not have a requirement to be online like the NRPE agent does

You will want to download the agent here
https://www.nagios.org/ncpa/#downloads

And then follow the instructions here
https://www.nagios.org/ncpa/getting-started.php

As this has diverted from the original forum topic, I an going to close this thread so we do not confuse other forum users.

If you need further assistance for a specific problem you can post it back here OR open a ticket here for further assistance
