Post by WVUhealth »

I setup xi a long time ago and I forget all the mods i have done. I am upgrading to rhel 8 and 5.8.
I am trying to figure out what what i need to recreate and what is included in the backup/restore.

Will the ssl/tls config come over with a backup/restore?
How can i reset the nagvis config? i cant remember username and passwords..

I am trying to figure out what what i need to recreate and what is included in the backup/restore.
All of the components that are backed up are listed in our official documentation here:

Apache/SSL and NagVis configs are also backed up and restored.

Having said that, I would like to point out that there is always a possibility something to go wrong with the migration/restoring the system. It is a good idea to try this in a test environment first, before applying it in production. This is why, we offer 3 IPs with each Nagios XI install. See more on the topic here:

https://support.nagios.com/kb/article/n ... s-145.html

You can try the following:
1. Backup your "old" Nagios XI server by following the steps, outlined in the backup & restore document
2. Install the same version of Nagios XI on the new server.
3. Copy over the backup of your old server, created in step 1 to the new one
4. Restore from the backup
5. Upgrade to the latest version of XI

Hope this helps.

i asked about the ssl/tls because I got this message..

WARNING: you are trying to restore a el6 backup on a el8 system
Compiled plugins and other binaries as well as httpd configurations
will NOT be restored.

You will need to re-download the Nagios XI tarball, and re-install
the subcomponents for this system. More info here:

Changing the OS version and architecture can present some challenges. Our document gives you the steps needed to remedy those.

Try this in a test environment. If you are successful, follow the same procedure in production. If you get stuck, post on the forum or open a ticket via our support center:
