Not listening on port 514

Post by NMFSTeam »

We have installed a new instance of Nagios Log Server on Ubuntu 20.04. All seems well, however, there are no processes listening on port 514.

We previously had Nagios Log Server running on CentOS 7, and that one had a java process listening on port 514.

How can we enable listening on port 514?

Thank you.

Hi NMFSTeam,

Root privileges are required bind ports below 1024 on most Unix and Unix like systems and Log Server by default runs as a non-privileged user. That being said some devices can only send syslog on port 514 so we have a guide on how to configure Log Server to listen on Privileged ports:

https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... Server.pdf

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks and Best Regards,
Keith
