Install Nagios XI on centos on Azure and import nagiosXI configuration from old Nagios XI 5.4.7

Post by admin-vvaddapalli »

Hello Team,

We are trying to build a new CentOS latest version on Azure with backend database MySQL running on it in cloud and install latest Nagios XI 5.10.0 on it
after the installation we want to migrate the configuration details from old 5.4.7 to new 5.10.0

We don't want to perform in-place upgrade, furtherly we want to migrate to cloud so that we are building new vm on azure and install latest Nagios XI on it and migrate the configuration means backup and restore to the new one.

Please provide us the plan and related the documents to it, we are preparing the document.

Thanks & regards
Vishal.

Hello, vvaddapalli,

When looking to upgrade and migrate your Nagios XI installation, it's recommended to follow a specific sequence of steps to ensure data integrity and system stability. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you through the process:
  1. In-place Upgrade: Firstly, upgrade your current Nagios XI system up to version 5.11 in-place. This ensures that your system is in a stable and compatible state before migration.
  2. Backup: Once you've upgraded to 5.11, create a backup of your Nagios XI instance. This backup will ensure that nothing is lost during the migration.
  3. Install on New VM: Set up your virtual machine (VM) and install a fresh copy of Nagios XI on it.
  4. Restore from Backup: After the installation on the new VM, restore the system using the backup you created in step 2. This will bring over all your settings, data, and configurations to the new system.
Resource: For a detailed walkthrough, Nagios has an official guide on 'Backing Up and Restoring/Migrating Nagios XI'. You can find it here: Backing Up and Restoring/Migrating Nagios XI Guide.

By following these steps, you should be able to seamlessly upgrade and migrate your Nagios XI installation with minimal disruption. If you encounter any issues or have further questions, don't hesitate to reach out.
