Questions about upgrade XI from 5.7.5 to 2024R1

Post by caqin »

Hi, Our current Nagios XI version is 5.7.5 running on Red Hat 7.9(Maipo) and already had converted PostgreSQL to MySQL, we are going to upgrade to Nagios XI latest version which is "Nagios XI 2024 R1".
Questions about this upgrade.
1. Do I need to upgrade 5.7.5 to 5.10 or 5.11 first, then upgrade from 5.10 or 5.11 to "Nagios XI 2024 R1"? Or I can directly upgrade from 5.7.5 to "Nagios XI 2024 R1" as we had converted PostgreSQL to MySQL when upgraded to 5.7.5.

2. I can only find xi-sys.cfg under folder "/usr/local/nagiosxi/var", I don't find this file under "/usr/local/nagiosxi/etc", is this an issue when upgrade?

3. Can "Nagios XI 2024R1" be running on Red Hat 7.9(Maipo)?

Thanks in advance!

First Id highly advise you to go to rhel 8 or rhel 9 as rhel 7 is depreciated in May of 2024. You should atleast take a backup first before a migration as XI 2024 will make alot of changes and could break some functions. Its also advised that if you are going to RHEL8 or RHEL9 use php 8.1 as php 5 and php 7 are long since depreciated.

Caqin,

You should be able to upgrade straight to XI 2024R1. That being said, we always recommend you take a backup of your system first in case something goes wrong.

Regarding xi-sys.cfg, I don't know off the top of my head, but I'll look into it and get back.

XI should run fine on RHEL 7.9.

Hi @caqin,

While Cory is generally correct, due to some specifics with recent version upgrades I would actually recommend upgrading to 5.10 or 5.11 before upgrading to 2024R1. This should help with a smoother transition, as we moved from PostgreSQL to MySQL at that point and you want to make sure that doesn't break.

As Cory stated, please make sure to take a backup of your system before upgrading or if possible, do this upgrade on your test server first to ensure success. We might also recommend holding off on this until after the holidays for more direct support in the event something does go awry.
