Best way to apply add extra contacts to some hosts

Post by sgomeztd »

Hi,

All my host have assigned one of two host templates called linux or windows based on the OS of each host that I latter use to configure the default services for each host. Those two templates both inherit the default generic-host template where I configured the notifications and contact group settings as until now I wanted to send all the notification to the same people for all hosts.

Now I have been requested that for some hosts, notifications need to be send to some extra contacts and I'm struggling to find the best way to apply this trough templates/inheritance.

I tried to create a new host_template that only contains a new contact group on its configuration as I was hopping that adding this new template to a hosts, will merge the contacts from this new template and the generic-template but I realized that the only the contacts on the generic-hosts are notified.

As its not possible either to handle notifications with hostgroups, is there some other way besides adding this new contact to all hosts ? I can be done relatively quickly using the bulk modification tool but I prefer using templates and inheritance as that give me more flexibility in the future.

Hello @sgomeztd,

It sounds like what you want to use is to create a new contact group that includes your original contact group in addition to some new contacts.

Here are some more resources to learn more about contacts and contact groups:

I'm afraid that's not the case as I only need the new contact to be notified for certain hosts, not all of them
