I edited the upgrade script and changed debian11 to debian12, and that worked. But I suppose someone will have to change the upgrade script to support debian12.

Interesting. We didn't test anyone upgrading FROM 12 already, since we didn't have support on 12 before, though clearly we missed a spot in the upgrade script, and thanks for that.
Were you already on 12? Of course, we know clever users can modify the install/upgrade scripts to install on currently unsupported distros, though the downside is, well, we haven't tested the product on it, and if there are problems all we can say is "you're on an officially unsupported distro so move to a supported one or figure it out yourself."
