Nagios XI Offline Check for Updates.

Post by rlee8394 »

I have the box Automatically Check for Updates unchecked since we have an offline instance. Yet the system continues to attempt an automatic update.

To resolve the issue users should verify the Nagios XI instance is running and ensure that all relevant settings are configured correctly, in addition to checking this status regularly.

I have the same issue with a fresh offline install on RHEL 9. check_for_updates is definitely set to 0 in my config, the server has been rebooted many times. It still seems to try to check for updates and complain when it can't. In addition, when this setting was set to enabled, there would be a 16 minute delay until any checks could be done. The nagios process would sit at 100% CPU for these 16 minutes and after that would fall off to 0. At that point checks would start to work. Not sure why this is enabled by default on an offline install.

Yes. We're running 2024R1.4.1. I have it disabled in the nagios.cfg as well as disabled in the web interface. As I look now it shows my last check in the web interface as Last Update Check: 2025-04-03 11:34:16 which was probably about when I found the web interface option. However it's also really annoying to see the yellow triangle with ! saying my update check failed. I wish there was a way to disable that.

Hi @bbowers,

I have created an issue in our bug tracking system so we can get this problem addressed. When it is released, it will be identified in the Changelog as [GL:XI#1798].
Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.
