Has anyone ever set up a company in Dubai?
Hello. I manage a Nagios infrastructure for a client who has just opened a branch in Dubai through a firm specializing in setting up and managing companies there. The thing is, ever since the setup, I’ve been getting some strange alerts regarding the connectivity checks between the servers in Europe and those hosted in the UAE. No outright timeouts, but rather latencies that exceed the thresholds at certain times (like between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM UAE local time, which corresponds to a peak in office activity). The question is... have you ever had to monitor hybrid Europe/Middle East setups with Nagios, and how did you calibrate your PING/check_tcp thresholds to avoid getting 50 false alerts a day? I’m torn between adjusting the warning/critical values or switching to an active check with NRPE on the Dubai side. Any feedback?

Hi @Xavian,
I have seen this type of behavior in the past when 2 sites are connected with an oversaturated VPN tunnel. I would recommend increasing the Max Check Attempts and Retry Interval for those services. If that still doesn't seem to help, I think your next best choice would be to adjust the thresholds as you have suggested.
