It should already be the default for any 32-bit Linux guest OS type, but it's worth a shot...
Edit the VM settings, and go to Options > Advanced > Configuration Parameters. Click 'Add Row' and enter
memory.gransize 1024
As I can't shutdown nagios xi server to check, can anyone check the setting to see whether it is enabled by nagios xi VM image by default?

We aren't licensed for hot-add, or I would test this.
Anyone else in the community have hot-add?
Also, you could test it on a development machine re-adding a new VM
