Also noticed the following messages in the log files in /var/lib/pgsql/data/pg_log

Checked pear and is installed on the nagios server. Do the versions correspond to your RedHat 5.5 install?

Code: Select all

[root@lxfm201nag data]# pear version
PEAR Version: 1.4.9
PHP Version: 5.1.6
Zend Engine Version: 2.1.0
Running on: Linux lxfm201nag.hdwa.health.wa.gov.au 2.6.18-194.17.1.el5PAE #1 SMP Mon Sep 20 07:34:07 EDT 2010 i686
Checked the pear HTML Template IT package via yum and it shows that it is available from the epel repo but not installed:

Code: Select all

php-pear-HTML-Template-IT.noarch 1.3.0-2.el5 epel
so..... I have reinstalled RHEL5.5 from scratch again & then loaded NagiosXI again. It appears that the pear install command in 1-preqs script *does not work* via a proxy.
After I have completed the 1-prereqs script I run the following command to install the pear package.

Code: Select all

yum install php-pear-HTML-Template-IT.noarch
and finally, 3 weeks later..... I have a working Core Config Manager

It's great that you've identified another issue with using a proxy server.

After configuring yum and wget to use the proxy it's clear that every other application is left to it's own devices. It would seam more appropriate to configure the proxy at a system level instead of at an application level. Configuring each and every application one at a time doesn't sound fruitful and we wouldn't be able to assist with such a large endeavor.

There are several methods to configuring a proxy at the system level and that's why I've refrained from documenting the process, because each setup will have it's own *criteria and semantics. Dictating instructions on configuring a proxy by some one who doesn't himself operate a proxy is to grandiose, even for me. That is if you tell us how you are configuring the proxy on your systems then we can research how to make Nagios and that technology work together.

* Different proxy server software combined with different configurations and let's not forget the reason for using a proxy to begin with will all boil down to you, your self, having a custom solution that almost no-one else is using.

However might I suggest that you take the settings you have for wget and set them as environment variables?

Environment variables can be set in several places and out of lack of a full understanding I put them in these files:

Code: Select all

/etc/profile; # IIRC "setenv var value"
/etc/bash.bashrc; # export var=value
/etc/environment; # var=value
For proxy configs I've used both uppercase and lowercase variants, leaving zero room for them to be ignored.

To other proxy users I'm also familiar with tsocks. However both of these technologies have draw backs and neither works perfectly or vary well at all for that matter. I have never worked with a proxy configuration that works perfectly, so I'm happy to see that you have made such progress after only 3 weeks.
