Monitoring websites hosted on Azure

Apparently it is not possible to ping websites hosted on azure. As website monitoring in Nagios works with a host check based on the ip of the website, I get "CRITICAL - Socket timeout after 10 seconds" when I add a website hosted on Azure. What would be the best way to work around this?

Are you experiencing issues with the url monitoring wizard? Or a host check associated with the website?

The problem fixed itself. It seems The URL is monitored ok. Thread can be closed. I thought a website URL host also did a ping, and that was the reason i got the socket timeout. But after some time it became healthy. No idea why it didn't work from the start. Thread can be clsoed.
