Updating via proxy

Post by Narie »

I'm having a problem with updating NagiosXI. I have downloaded the VMware Virtual Machine 2012R1.8 a little while ago, and am trying to update the software and plugins via our Squid proxy. No matter what I try, including updating the system proxy settings (Admin/Proxy Configuration), I see the follow message:

Update Check Problem: Last update check failed.
Latest Available Version: Installed Version: 2012R1.8 Last Update Check: 2013-05-30 07:02:53

Are there any other settings I need to adjust in order to update via a proxy server?

Have you followed all the steps in the FAQ?
http://support.nagios.com/wiki/index.ph ... th_Proxies
Including the proxy component?

Thanks for your reply.
- I have followed the steps in the FAQ
- I did include the proxy component.

Updating with yum is no problem and downloading with wget works as well, without a problem.

What logs can I check to see any errors when updating?

During the update everything that is being done will be verbose output on the command line, any critical errors you run into should stop the update and show you the error as one of the last lines, in addition you should have a install.log in:

Code: Select all

/tmp/nagiosxi/install.log

Unfortunately there is no such file: /tmp/nagiosxi/install.log

Are there any other ways to troubleshoot this issue? I really need to get this, updating Nagios XI is not really a problem, updating the plugins individually, seems quite time consuming.

Another thing, uploading of the proxy plugin is this done by the zip file, or by the php files, so after the zip file is extracted?

The zip is extracted and the files are sent to their correct locations. This is all done at once. What do you mean updating the plugins is time consuming? It is highly recommended you only use the nagios plugins package that installed with your version since updating one without the other could cause breakages. Of course, custom downloaded plugins is another matter.

So, should I create a support case to solve this proxy issue?

Possibly. Could you post a screenshot, or at least the text of the Admin --> "proxy configuration" page in XI?

Here's the screenshot. I've wiped out the actual proxy address, but it's a FQD.

Open a support ticket. We may move to a remote session rather quickly.
