Nagios 4.x .. newbie

Post by CaptainHaddock »

Hi .. new user to Nagios and finding it difficult to get release date information. Specifically I see a 4.0.0 beta, but can't find any projected release dates for actual 4.0.0 release.

Surely that is known/projected by now.

Also will XI work with the Beta or should we expect a new release of XI when 4.x is released?

thanks, Haddock

As of now, there is not a projected release date. However its likely not too far off! Technically XI can and does work with 4, however it is not suggested in any production environments at this point, and we will not support it. There will be a full XI release that includes core 4 sometime shortly after a stable 4 is released

:(

too bad we can't determine how long a piece of string is :)
.. is there at least a projected month or quarter (or year!) ?

Obviously OSS projects vary in their ability to provide and adhere to a roadmap, but for future reference is this typical for Nagios development release cycles?

thanks again, Haddock

Well, it just entered beta rather recently. I could predict 4 going stable before the end of the year, but alas, I hold no power over the release date, so my prediction is best left to the bookies.
