monitor a logfile for a regular expression

Using Nagios XI, I'd like to monitor a linux logfile using a check script installed locally on the client. I want to parse the logfile for a regular expression. I want to execute the script via an active (or passive) ncpa agent.

Is there a check script or wizard that is recommended for this action?
