Did you ever follow lmiltchev's suggestion?
lmiltchev wrote:Go to:

Admin->Manage Users->nagiosadmin->Edit

and see if this is the same email that you have listed for the nagiosadmin contact under:

CCM->Contacts->nagiosadmin->Modify

Note: "nagiosadmin" is a user, and uses the "default" "xi_host_notification_handler" and "xi_service_notification_handler", while "contacts only" use "notify-host-by-email" and "notify-service-by-email".

Can you send a test email successfully while logged in as nagiosadmin? Can you send a "custom" notification?

host/service->Advanced tab->Send custom notification

Are you sending email through a relay? If so, the relay may be filtering the messages as your log report that the emails are successfully sent .. . .

I have just observed that the dispatcher for nagiosadmin is Nagios XI while for other contacts (which are just contacts not users) the dispatcher is 'Custom: notify-service-by-email'. What is Nagios XI Dispatcher?

Interestingly when I use the option 'notify-service-by-email' option on nagios admin, I'm able to receive the alerts. please suggest

The notify-service/host-by-email commands are for use when you are notifying only through contacts, not users. The XI Dispatch is basically saying that the notification commands set for that object/contact association were the xi-notification commands, which are for use when a contact is assigned to a user.
