All,

After upgrading the plugins, all works as expected:

[user1@server]#/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_http --version
check_http v2.0.2 (nagios-plugins 2.0.2)
[user1@server]# 

[user1@server]#/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_http -H www.google.com -C 30,15
OK - Certificate 'www.google.com' will expire on Wed 20 Aug 2014 01:00:00 AM PDT.
[user1@server]#
