I do understand the risks associated with altering the database.
That sounds like a viable solution.

Is there not a way to alter the backend code at the point where the assignment is made?
I'd feel a wee bit more comfortable doing that than messing with the db.
Plus it would be real-time as opposed to on a cron.

I am not sure if the option of selecting custom plugins with NRDS will be implemented any time soon. It is more likely that we will extend the functionality of the "Bulk Modifications Tool". Currently, you can change many config options in bulk, but "is_volatile" in not on the list. It would be nice if we add this to the "Bulk Modifications Tool". Unfortunately, you may need to deal with altering the database for the time being.
