Just out of curiosity is it possible to check the date/time on the EC2 instance you created? We had a problem internally where the date was off so far on some of our VMs we cloned from that it would cause problems with the certificates on the repositories because they were created in the "future" according to the server since it thought it was almost a year behind.

My original thought was that it was a date/time issue but because I couldn't login to the server I couldn't confirm it.
Unfortunately the ec2-user is only created after all the nagios installs complete - so if they don't complete , you can't login!

I haven't created another instance so not sure.
My fix was as I documented earlier - edit the epel.repo to use http instead of https.
This allowed the installation to complete and all is working.
