Found the problem /var/lib/pgsql/pgstartup.log. Postmaster was looking for localhost and it bombed. When I edited the hosts file I fat fingered the edit. Correcting the localhost entry and the service remains started (duh!). Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I'll be closing this thread now, but feel free to open another if you need anything in the future!
