Hi luke, Luke I, agree with you but with a VM the drivers are provided by Vm-tools
I have dowloaded the latest upgrades for centos 6.6 using
then reinstalled the VM-tools and rebooted the server, now 4 hours has passed and the load has started to increase ,but to lower levels. ( you dont have these ones on the demos version
http://nagiosxi.demos.nagios.com/nagiosxi/index.php?# ).I will leave it during the night, to see what happens

I didn't saw anything weird related with hardware on the Host.
But lets see how it goes during the night.
I'll let you know news tomorrow.
cheers

It's possible that vmware tools might have an impact on this. How much so, I am unsure. Let us know what happens, and we can go from there.

hello Spencer,
It's showing the same beahviour but with lower values (close to 10 and one spike of 25).
localhost-current_load Jan14.jpg
the VM tools and the Centos Upgrade definitely have done something. the Nagios at least is more manageable, but still is not right for a production environment.
Now, my question.
what else can I do to get is working properly?
Cheers.

hello,
The Nagios VM has 1 Core , The physical Server has 4 cores (1595Mhz).
I'm thinking in set this VM in other Hardware in order to discard any physical inconsistency.
Cheers,

How many checks per 5 minutes is this server running. 1 core may not be enough . . .

hello I have configured 8 host for ping services and 2 SNMP routers for network traffic. ( not so heavy load for this , i think)
Everything have been configured using the wizards.
Cheers,

None of the top outputs explain why load average is so high. If you watch top when experiencing a load spike, what is causing the largest cpu usage?

I would give the Nagios VM at least two cpu's, Carlos, even with a low number of hosts, the better performance is worth it. I would at least give it a try. There could be one process lokcing cpu. It could even be there is some job running in vmware itself. When I take a snapshot for example, cpu load is spiking too.

Carlos,
I suggest going with Willems suggestion. Bring the VM down, crank up the cpu's to 2 and maybe give it a little extra memory. Then test everything out an run top while testing the host machine.
