Can we make a feature request for monitoring Nagios processing?
Can you elaborate on this? What exactly would you like to monitor?

Currently, you will be able to see the "first signs of trouble" just by looking at the system status page... It would show you if the performance grapher is running or not. If all of the dots below database maintenance are red, this would indicate that (most probably) crond is not running, which will also cause issues with graphing as perfdata files will be piled up in the "/usr/local/nagios/var/spool/xidpe" directory.

Is there anything else that you would like to see implemented?

For the performance graphing issue, all of my dots were 'green' but my spool grew to over 50k items.

Can we implement a counter threshold for anything over say 1000 items in /usr/local/nagios/var/spool/perfdata to alert?

Totally possible. There are a number of plugins that can do this:

I have previously created the following Feature Requests which would have detected your issues:

New service check for Nagios XI localhost - "Service Status - npcd"
New service check for Nagios XI localhost - "File Count - xidpe Spool Directory"
New service check for Nagios XI localhost - "File Count - NPCD Perfdata Spool Directory"

If you think these are worthwhile you can add some comments in the requests as that helps build a supporting case for Nagios XI to come with these specific checks.
