One thing to think about - generally in high IO and high profile DB environments your data is replicated in one way or another to one or more servers, usually a DR or BI or both server. The idea being you can then report against the secondary copies without interfering with BAU operations. Perhaps the missing feature is the ability to replicate the perfstats and such to the DR server. That's just me thinking out loud, comparing the enterprise monitoring system to the enterprise it monitors. With that though - you might be able to fabricate your own backup/restore or replication solution that would allow you to do your reporting elsewhere?
