Can you try it with NSClient++ version 0.4.1.105? The latter versions have a bunch of bugs. Let us know if that works for you.

Could you upload your nsclient.ini file so we can see it?

In addition to the above, could you try installing the x64 version and see if that version works for you? I am referencing this post:
https://github.com/mickem/nscp/issues/95 and a possible solution was to move to the x64 version of nsclient. Thanks!

What is the main issue that you are having - not being able to make changes made to nsclient.ini file "stick"? Can you give us a *specific* example of what change was not saved?
Try the following. Stop the test. Restart the nsclient++ service and run a "test" check from the CLI on your nagios server:
Code: Select all
./check_nt -H <client ip> -p 12489 -s <password> -v CLIENTVERSION
Go back to your Windows box, change the password in the nsclient.ini file to something else, save, exit and restart the NSClient++ service. Run the check from the Nagios server again. Did it fail now (after the password was changed)?

In NSClient++ 0.4.3.x stronger security was added.
For Nagios to bypass this new setting you need to enable an option on nsclient.
Code: Select all
nscp settings --path /settings/NRPE/server --key insecure --set true
Check out the quick NSClient++ install guide I have here:

I've done a lot of testing with the conclusion that nscp is not working correctly on windows 7 32 bit systems. I am using 64 bit now and I have not a single problem.
I was assigned to make it work on 32 bit systems.
Also, i have no idea how to close this Post

2 part answer - then we can close the thread if you want:
1) If nsclient++ isn't working to your liking the Nagios forums aren't the place to have changes made. We can offer our own advice and help with some troubleshooting, but ultimately it's not our software and you're most likely to get the best results right at the
developer's site and
forums, especially for a low-level problem such as the one you're experiencing.
2) I couldn't believe that the developer would release a product that had such a glaring problem in it and also that problem
wouldn't be googleable. I created a lab and tried for myself. See the results here:
https://youtu.be/aOFb_ZR5HrU
Whatever problem you're having is specific to your environment. NSCP is working as advertised in mine.
