I've narrowed the problem down to the Host Group. For some reason, once they're added to the Linux Host Group, it adds the extra metrics.

Relationship info for the Linux Host Group displays:
Relation to Services, entry: localhost-PING
Relation to Services, entry: localhost-Root Partition
Relation to Services, entry: localhost-Total Processes
Relation to Services, entry: localhost-Swap Usage
Relation to Services, entry: localhost-SSH
Relation to Services, entry: localhost-HTTP
Where are these relationships set? Are they in the database or a config somewhere?

Dave

A quick update:

The Host Group 'Relationship Info' displayed the following:
Relation to Services, entry: localhost-PING
Relation to Services, entry: localhost-Root Partition
Relation to Services, entry: localhost-Total Processes
Relation to Services, entry: localhost-Swap Usage
Relation to Services, entry: localhost-SSH
Relation to Services, entry: localhost-HTTP
I deleted the services for localhost and alerts instantly reduced by ~2/3; removing PING, Root Partition, SSH, HTTP from all of the alerts that it didn't belong to.

With the localhost alert being the default alert that runs out-of-the-box, I presume it must be a bug; I cannot replicate it, however!

I believe we're good to go, now.

Thanks!,

Dave

There are a couple of things that I'm not quite clear on Dave. We can just close it, but for your information I'd like to verify things are happening correctly.

1) You should know that this is the primary purpose for hostgroups. While using a wizard *shouldn't* automatically create services you don't ask it to. The way this would happen is if..
i. someone assigned a hostgroup to any template assigned to the xiwizard-whatever template or any template it inherits AND
ii. someone create a service and assigned it to that hostgroup

2) I'm not certain ... but it looks like maybe you're trying to remove services by running the wizard again? That will never work. Wizards only add services, rerunning the wizard won't remove them.

Go ahead and let us know if it's still OK to close.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I'm not clear as to how it happened as I didn't set it up myself, I was handed the problem to figure out this morning. Perhaps the Host Group was assigned to a template somehow and thus was inheriting metrics, as you say.

As for removing services, I do this within CCM > Services > Delete.

I'm happy for this to be closed if you are.

Thanks,

Dave
