cfg files are rebuilt every time you apply config. If after running apply config you have 0 byte cfg files you may still have database corruption. Still - the proper way to fix that is to do a restore. For now I'll leave this open, it doesn't sound like you're entirely out of the woods.

So if i restore to an earlier local backup, that would resolve any database corruption correct?
I then upgraded to R2.7, got an error but resolved that.

Updating NRDP..
cp: cannot stat `/usr/local/nrdp/server/config.inc.php': No such file or directory
now i am in the process of re-importing my hosts and services via the bulk import wizard.

Is this sufficient?

Yes, this will re-create your existing configurations. You may need to do some other things like upload any extra plugins you've added in the past.

Existing performance data can be restored as well. All existing performance data is in /usr/local/nagios/share/perfdata/
