I'm not familiar with the NSclient side of things, is there no way this information can be pulled from the database?

Typically in large deployments, the deployment of the nsclient.ini configuration file is scripted. There's no database to pull that information from by default. As far as your test machine is concerned, let's try it on one Windows box first to ensure that this solution will work for you.
