If there are deb/rpm repositories, where are they, are they current and updated or changed for Nagios XI? Truly if NRPE expects to stay relevant to anyone in Enterprise IT there has to be an automated installation path.

Each distro maintain their own set of packages. Nagios doesn't package them. You can find NRPE installation instructions here
