I'm going to close this, I just tested this on Debian 8.4 and this is working fine. For sanity's sake I checked to make sure the package in question is in the Debian 8 repos and it is.
The problem may be caused by the fact that Debian 8 likes to keep the cd rom in the repos section and uses that first. In order to solve this, just comment out the cd repo in /etc/apt/sources.list
