Ok, we've figured it out. It turned out to be a DNS problem. Even after I updated the dns and restarted a few network services on the nagios server it was still caching the old IP, despite me being able to perform an nslookup on the server. I changed the config on the fusion server to access by IP rather than by name and it is now working.
